Going Brazilian

Ever since we noticed we had pubic hair, we had to worry about it showing, mostly in the summer at the beach (at least in our day). At first our only option was shaving – and shaving bumps. Then came Nair, with its toxic, perfume-y, disgusting smell. When we finally discovered the “Brazilian.” all we had to worry about then was the pain.
And, it is painful. At first. Scratch that: it’s always painful. It’s just a matter of mind over matter (and doing really small sections at a time) if we want to make it through a Brazilian without quitting halfway. Which leads me to the real point of this post: could men deal with this kind of pain? (more…)

My Dirty Little Secrets

We all have them. Little secrets that we try so hard to hide. Now I’m coming out of the closet, so to speak, and sharing mine. Okay, not all of my secrets; I’m not crazy. But enough to maybe get you to share yours, too.
- The 5 Second Rule: Yes, I will pick up food from the floor and eat it. Get over it. I know you do, too. Admit it – especially if it’s something you really, really love and you’re down to the last morsel. Like you’re going to throw away that mini Mounds bar just because you were clumsy? (more…)

Shining, gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen

Why is it that, when you look at old high school photos, the guys who are bald now were the ones with all the hair? My husband, my brother in laws, virtually every bald guy I know spent the 70’s (and later, as we all know. . . ) with pony tails and big ‘fros. Which brings me to today’s subject: while we know women spend time and money on keeping their curls cool, men are the biggest closet coiffeur-ers. (more…)

12 Step Program for BBs

Hello. My name is Lucille and I’m 58. And I’m not recovering.
I don’t lie about my age and I really believe it’s a mistake to. Say you’re 10 years younger than you are and people think, “Oh. She looks so old for her age.”
Of course, it pays to look younger than you are, which is probably why I’ve never felt the urge to lie (except when I was 18 and said I was 21. . . but that’s a different story.).
