What’s the deal with ex-boyfriends? We all have at least a few. But how do you deal with an ex, when he contacts you out of the blue?
There have been times that I immediately revert to when we were a couple and it takes me at least a few minutes to pull myself back to the present. Usually, whatever the issues were that broke us up really don’t matter anymore. But there is always at least one who can throw you for a loop. So, when I got a call a couple of years ago from my first-year-in-college love (Yes; the one to whom I was engaged and who convinced me to leave college and move in with his family), I panicked. “Multitaskers [are] just lousy at everything,” said Clifford I. Nass, part of a team at Stanford University whose study that proved that the most persistent multitaskers perform badly. The study tested 100 college students with a series of electronic images of different color shapes, letters and numbers.
But they didn’t test them cooking dinner, watching tv and feeding the dogs simultaneously. (more…)

The other night Gary and I bought a flat screen tv. But you know that wasn’t all it was about. No; a flat screen tv means a reconfiguration of the living room and I’d like to share my experience – which I think says a lot about the difference between men and women. (more…)

Today we celebrated a milestone in our marriage. Gary did something today that I never anticipated in my wildest dreams. Something most women only dream of.

I know I’ve been tardy with my posts. We had a great family vacation, and are in the final stages of a kitchen renovation that has disrupted our lives for much of the summer. I was working on another posting, but the events of the past 24 hours regarding basketball coach Rick Pitino adds another chapter to a previous post that generated a number of interesting comments.
For those of you who don’t know the particulars: back in April, Louisville University basketball coach Rick Pitino was accused of raping the wife of the basketball team equipment manager. Pitino responded by accusing the woman of extortion, saying she had demanded 10 million dollars to drop the rape charges. The mainstream sporting press, overwhelmingly white, male, and middle aged, came to Pitino’s defense and labeled the accuser as a vengeful, slightly unbalanced woman. (more…)
