No PDAs. . .or Else!

Friday, March 1st, 2013

We women over (and way over) 40 remember that back in the olden days, public displays of affection were absolutely verboten in the hallowed hallways of the school. And that meant no holding hands, hugging or, God forbid, kissing. I once got caught (more…)

But Does it Really Keep on Ticking?

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

You remember those old commercials, where a Timex watch gets really put through the ringer – stomped on, thrown across the room you name it – but nonetheless, it keeps on working. Samsonite luggage gets thrown from a plane and it’s unscathed. A Bic pen gets shot out of a gun and, by golly, it still works! You watch Mad Men now and you see them coming up with these kind of ideas for ad campaigns, knowing that most people will just believe them. Well, not me. I had to test them for myself. (more…)

And then it struck me.

It’s not all that different for about half the people in this country. For while Lord and Lady Crawley and their family had scads of footmen, maids and valets, so do many American men. Only instead of being called servants, they’re called “wives”. (more…)

Inflationary Woes

Friday, January 18th, 2013

Every time I wander into a clothing store, I have to chuckle. Not because of the styles or the shoppers or even the prices (I shop at Marshall’s – no sticker shock). I marvel because no one is talking about inflation. And by inflation, I mean in the size of clothes. Or, maybe it makes more sense to call it “size deflation” because the older I get, the smaller my dress size becomes. (more…)
