We're (way) over 40. Deal with it.

It might surprise women (and even men) over 40, but apparently the most popular birthday gift for 15 year-olds in Venezuela is breast enhancement. A boob job for a 15 year old? Unbelievable. I think I barely needed a bra by that age which I guess is why there’s such a big market for this misogynistic procedure.
Yeah, misogynistic. Because why do you think young girls feel they need huge breasts? (more…)

We all know some – people who are Semi-Sociopath-Like or SSL (a term I’ve coined). They’re cold; they don’t care about your feelings (remember Hall & Oats’ Rich Girl? “It’s so easy to hurt others when you can’t feel pain”). They hurt us. And they don’t seem to care. They’re just numb. But, what makes they different from actual sociopaths? Sociopaths pretend they have feelings, which makes them able to manipulate us (think Ted Bundy). If you’re semi-sociopath-like you actually have feelings, but pretend you don’t. They’re buried so deeply that you can’t get in touch with them – because you don’t want to. And after awhile, if you bury them for long enough, you just can’t. We call these people cold or repressed or simply f*cked up. (more…)

I don’t know how they measured it, but scientists have discovered that the world’s dust has literally doubled in the last century. Judging from my house, I’d have to agree. I am not the world’s best house cleaner. In fact, I stink at keeping my house neat and clean, mostly because I hate doing it. Oh, sure, I can make it presentable (at least I think it’s presentable) when I’m expecting company, but there always seems to be something more important or interesting to do than to sweep. Believe it or not. (more…)

College. In my dorm room. Alone. Lonely. Miserable.
High school. Saturday night. At the side of the dance floor. Lonely.
The crowded disco. No one asking me to dance. Lonely.
Today. In my kitchen. Alone. Happy.
What’s the difference between being alone and being lonely? Why are some people lonely even when they’re not alone? Sometimes I think the more you need to be with people, the lonelier you are. (more…)

I don’t care what anyone says; I want my own money. I don’t want to get (or give) an “allowance” or to have to answer for every pair of shoes I buy (which would mean a whole lot of explaining). No, I want financial independence from everyone – including my husband. Which is why I’m still happily married. (more…)
