We're (way) over 40. Deal with it.

Watching TV late one night, just flicking through channels, I happened upon a show that I thought would be kinda funny: Gigolos. And it is. But it got me thinking: how many women actually . . . ah. . . . HIRE them?

We’ve all had bad stuff happen to us. And in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, some of us are dealing with more than we could have imagined. I consider myself extremely lucky, especially since on the day of the hurricane, Gary was up the ladder, on the roof, cutting down a 200 pound branch. Really. He didn’t get hurt (although I did video it for use at his funeral, just in case), but could there have been an upside if he had?

Back in the ’60s, women really had to fight for their rights. It’s still a struggle, although it’s certainly getting better. But hold on to your hats, ladies. It’s not all roses; there are some things still gunning at us. Here is the good and bad news for us women over 40.

Some people have accused me of hating men. Au contraire. In fact, some of my favorite ****** have been men (fill in the blank). I simply am – as a woman well over 40 – acutely aware of the differences between the genders. And I feel it’s my job to point them out, in the manner in which I am most comfortable. Which, quite often, sounds derogatory but, if you know me (and you should, by now), you know I’m just being little old sarcastic me.

Is vacation planning strictly a female skill? I’m beginning to think it is. Why else would Gary pack about 10 shirts – along with 3 – 4 tee shirts – for a 7 day trip? Especially when I know he’ll wear the same shirt at least twice? And, yet, he makes fun of my pre-planning: making a list of what I should bring, pulling stuff from the closet for days – or weeks – in advance. But who didn’t forget her toothbrush?
