How often has this happened to you? Your phone rings at 11 PM, 3 AM or 6 AM (whatever constitutes the middle of the night for you) and it’s your friend, in the middle of a crisis. No, not an emergency, like a car accident – – a crisis, like her boyfriend just broke up with her. Or maybe she just realized he’s probably been cheating on her. And she wants your advice.

A middle-aged man was riding his Harley-Davidson along a California highway when suddenly the sky clouded over his head, and in a booming voice the Lord said, “Because you have tried to live a good life and have been faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.”
The man pulled over and said, “Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want…”
The Lord said, “That request is materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking — the supports needed to reach the bottom of the Pacific and all the concrete and steel it would take! It would nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for wordly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.” (more…)

You’ve Got a (Toxic) Friend. . . ugh

Hey! I’m back! And I’m starting off with reposts of earlier favorites of mine.
We all have them; friends we could really do without. You know the kind I’m talking about. The ones who are high maintenance, who call you up at the worst times, pump you full of their high octane drama, and bitch and moan about their man – the same complaints, every time.
They call you to cry and beg for advice – but they never take it. They wonder why they can’t find a man, get a better job, move out, move away, move their . . . you get the picture. They have all these problems and you are the only one who can help them.
