Sub Zero

When I was in high school with maybe a 24 inch waist, I wore a size 5/6 and sometimes a size 7/8. Now I weigh more than a tad more (some things I don’t share. . . ) and guess what? I still wear an 8! And sometimes a 6! And sometimes a 10. And now someone with a 24 inch waist wears a 0.

No, ladies, they aren’t making them smaller. Females, that is. They’re just making clothes bigger, so you and I can make believe we still wear the same size as we used to. (more…)

Here Comes St. Jude!

Friday, January 14th, 2011

When was the last time someone unexpected came to your house? When I was a kid,  once a year the old man (old to me, at least) who was collecting for St. Jude’s Hospital showed up at the door. We would yell “St. Jude is here!” and my father would bitch and moan under his breath because, (more…)

Organ size is determined by p53 protein

In studies conducted on the fruit fly, researchers have revealed that when some specific cells  are subjected to stress, not only is the growth of this part of the organ reduced but also that of the remaining section.

This is obviously a very, very serious problem. Not only could this increase the need for rolled up socks in the pants; it also can have a very detrimental affect on the egos of those poor men in our lives (who run the world and make most of the money). (more…)

You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Luckily

Friday, December 31st, 2010

You read lots of stories about people’s dreams being fulfilled, but I always want to know about the things we think will make us happy, but really won’t.

Sure, Barbra Streisand probably loves the money she makes, but she obviously isn’t having much fun with it, living in seclusion and hiding from her fans. And you can bet Princess Di rued the day she became royalty, though who wouldn’t wish for that? But, bringing it back to me (which is really what I always do, no?), I’ve been thinking about the things I wanted, growing up; the things I thought would make me happy. (more…)
