My friend, Donna, forwarded me this story about her husband, Pat, that I think most of you will respond to either by nodding in knowing agreement or gasping in incredulity:
As many of you know this weekend was Patrick’s radio stations “Ultimate Yard Sale” which took place at Scarborough Downs [in Maine]. There were […] over 4700 people looking for a bargain. I, too, had a table full of trinkets and trash. Lucky for me, I sleep with the boss so I was able to get a prime location![…] Read the rest of this entry »

Two third grade boys see each other for the first time since June. The yell from opposite ends of the playground and run as fast as they can, ending in a bear hug of happiness.
After which they are taunted by fifth grade boys, who accuse them of “humping” each other.
Now, imagine this scenario with two girls. You can’t, right? Because even though there are tons of reasons girls can be brutal to each other, harassing one another for showing affection isn’t one of them. We can kiss each other on the lips without a smidge of worry about what people will think (except those purvey guys who drool over it). There have been times that I immediately revert to when we were a couple and it takes me at least a few minutes to pull myself back to the present. Usually, whatever the issues were that broke us up really don’t matter anymore. But there is always at least one who can throw you for a loop. So, when I got a call a couple of years ago from my first-year-in-college love (Yes; the one to whom I was engaged and who convinced me to leave college and move in with his family), I panicked. “Multitaskers [are] just lousy at everything,” said Clifford I. Nass, part of a team at Stanford University whose study that proved that the most persistent multitaskers perform badly. The study tested 100 college students with a series of electronic images of different color shapes, letters and numbers.
But they didn’t test them cooking dinner, watching tv and feeding the dogs simultaneously. Read the rest of this entry »
