Beyond Babedom

We're (way) over 40. Deal with it.

Don’t Rain on My Parade

We’ve probably all gone through life with people telling us what not to do: don’t cross in the middle of the block (Romper Room), don’t throw matches into the woods (Smokey the Bear), don’t drink and drive (your parents – hopefully). Much of this advice is good; some is not. My question is, when do you ignore advice, even if it comes from well-meaning people? And what happens when you do? Read the rest of this entry »

The “No Curves” Zone: Love is a Battlefield — The Sports Edition

If your post-Thanksgiving meals were like mine, one topic dominated  conversations around the dinner table.  I’m not talking about the conversation about Aunt Martha’s lousy pumpkin pie, or grandpa’s personal hygiene problem.  I’m confident most of us were talking about that small car accident that took place early Friday morning in Florida.  Unless you were forking down cranberry sauce on Mars, the facts surrounding the event, and the resulting fallout, are well-known.  What has been most revealing has been how this has become what could be called a “teachable moment.”

(Well, maybe not some of the girls I went to high school with. . . )

The second thing I did was tweeze my eyebrows.

So, you ask, how can these two disparate things be anyway connected? Read the rest of this entry »

The “No Curves” Zone: How Rogue can you go?

The book we’ve all been waiting for is finally out, and what better way to show the special someone how you love them during this holiday season than a copy of the Thrilla from Wasilla’s 400-page pimp slap of John McCain, Katie Couric, the father of her daughter’s child (Ricky Hollywood!), Barack Obama and, of course, the liberal media.

I was in the company of a number of men last week, and used them as an unofficial focus group on the subject of Sarah Palin.  Read the rest of this entry »
