Sister Bonding – Pt 1

Just began my first vacation ever with my “baby” sister Patrice. I hadn’t realized we’d never done this before and so I have decided this will be the subject of my posts this week. Because Patrice and I, though on good terms, have never been especially close (There are 4 sisters in my family with interesting cross relationships, but I’ll
save that for later).
We’ve already discovered some likenesses we never before realized we have: neither if us like peppermint, we both absolutely LOVE salt and vinegar potato chips (to the point of self-inflicting intense mouth pain), and we each could easily eat a bag of Jax in a single sitting.
So, let’s see what happens with our relationship over the next week – if we really bond…or want to kill each other!

‘Cause the Bible Tells Me So?

We’ve all heard the story of Adam and Eve and how evil, evil Eve tempted Adam with an apple from the tree of knowledge and, therefore, how women are the root of all problems people-kind face. There is so much in this story that bugs me, but you’ll be happy to know that in the original Hebrew version (before King James had his translation done, for example), Eve did not actually tempt Adam but, rather, they succumbed to the serpent’s temptation together.
So, we’re blamed for everything bad in this world because some jerk mistranslated the Bible. Figures.
But rather than dwell on the good book (and who their third son, Seth, mated with) . . . (more…)

Have you ever noticed how many urban myths there are about women? You know, like how women are the gossipy ones? Please. Just sit and listen to a bunch of guys sit around and talk about their golf buddies. And what about when football coaches insult their players by calling them “girls”? As if any of them – including the coach – would last a minute with cramps, never mind labor. (more…)

There’s an off-Broadway play that examines how relationships and events in our lives are sometimes inextricably attached to memories of what we were wearing at the time. Does every couple recognize the “free pass” system? You know; when you each have maybe 3 people each with whom an extramarital, “romantic liaison” would be permissible? If you don’t, then I strongly suggest you consider having this conversation, for several reasons. Not the least of which is the guiltless ability to have a fling with Denzel Washington (Number 1 on my list).
