“Really Cute” vs. Overstuffed Sausage
Today I was wearing a new top that I really liked. And one of my co-workers – a woman – commented that it was “really cute.” Now, normally that would be enough to make me happy. But I’ve recently gained a new wisdom, basically because I have caught myself saying the same thing to other women. . . when what they were wearing looked absolutely horrendous on them.
Not that I had lied to them. To the contrary: I really, really liked what they were wearing; just not on them.
Which brings me to my newest aha moment: how can we know when to dump an outfit we love?
Because we all want to look good. And we all know that we have to depend on women – our friends – to be honest with us (or gay men, but that’s another subject for another post. The straight men in our lives are too afraid to tell us the truth or too blunt or too mean). And they – we – usually are honest. . . to a point. But most of us are guilty of that lie of omission. You know what I mean. It’s when technically you’re not lying, but you’re leaving out something important. In my case, I was telling friends how nice their dress or shorts or bathing suit was, but leaving out the part about “but you look like an overstuffed sausage in it.”
So, what is better: to have an “okay” outfit that makes you look great, or a great outfit that makes you look okay? Or, even worse, a great outfit that makes you look like those “gotcha” pix on the front of the Star or People magazine?
I’ll tell you what I’ve decided. I don’t want to wear something, regardless how “cute” it is, if I don’t look good in it.
And I’m asking all my friends to please tell me!
You can still say it’s a great skirt. Just tell me if it makes my butt look big . . . so I never, ever wear it again.

I think having an “okay” outfit that makes you look great is the way to go. Definitely want something that makes YOU look great, rather than an stunning outfit that doesn’t do the trick.
🙂
And what adds to the overall effect is the “overstuffed sausage” is 6 inch, porn star, high heels. Yikes!
If you feel good wearing it whatever the size and you don’t care what the critics say than I say good for you that takes guts.
