Gossip, gossip, gossip. It’s what girls do, right? Wrong. Just like the inaccurate “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” (remember which gender usually says “If I can’t have her, nobody will”), there is the equally inaccurate “gossip like an old lady”. I don’t hate sports. Yes, I know many of my readers think I do, because I’ve railed against the high cost of college athletics, the public financing of sports arenas and so on. But I really like some sports. In fact, I spent Sunday afternoon watching the movie “Eddie” where Whoppie Goldberg – a rabid Knicks fan – gets the job as their head coach. Okay; not the same as watching a game, but the point is, I really enjoyed the basketball scenes and it made me remember all the bball games I’ve attended – and loved. Hey, I was a cheerleader for about 100 years. So, what’s my problem with sports? I don’t have one. My problem is with the culture of sports. And that is a whole ‘nother story. (more…)

You think colleges are for providing higher education? Grow up. These days, their real job is to provide entertainment for the masses of sports fanatics and spend billions of dollars on coaches, stadiums and players. . . who, quite often, don’t graduate (or “pass” without ever having to go to class).
The numbers are ridiculous. Hundreds of millions are spent on new stadiums. The football coach at U.S.C. makes over $4 million a year while (more…)

For those who know me (or are familiar with my former blog, Political Doodle), you are well aware that I am a pablum puking liberal. That said, I have to admit that I have begun to believe in the “free market” – a market that is unfettered by laws and regulations where there is no intervention by the state.
I say HELL YES to a free market. . . in sports. If only the free market ruled, we’d have so much more time for relationships. (more…)
