Touchy, Touchy

There is this weird thing that some men/boys do that, apparently, they think they can get away with. Touching women. I don’t mean on the shoulder or the elbow or even pinching a cheek. I mean “touching”, as in  patting her ass or brushing a hand across her breasts or even putting a hand up her skirt. You know why they think they can get away with it? Because they can. The Girls with the Ugly Tattoos

I went to see “The Help” the other night and was a little disappointed. The movie did follow the book (which I really liked) very closely, and it was – mostly – very satisfying. However, one thing really bothered me: the main character, Skeeter, who was supposed to be tall and gangly and unattractive was . . . Emma Stone! Now, really, Emma Stone? Unattractive? (more…)

The Catholic Lie

This isn’t a diatribe against the pope; it isn’t  a complaint about the number of (extra) collections they hit you with during mass. It’s not even a repudiation of the urban myth Catholic kids used to spread about a free pass to heaven if you wore a scapula from the moment you were born. No,  this is about the kind of lying that Catholics do. Yes, we lie. And I say “we” even though I’m really a non-practicing Catholic. I still feel guilty about lying. So Catholic lying is how I do it.
