We're (way) over 40. Deal with it.

Why I Love Porn

No, I don’t love porn, but lots of people do. So, my question is, why do you love porn? Most men will say it turns them on, gets them hot, makes them horny. They love watching these women perform an amazing array of sex acts with obvious enjoyment. Well, let me burst that bubble right now. Many of these women are not even women; they’re girls. And most of them are either participating out of desperation or, more likely, have been forced into the sexual trade. So, consider this the next time you get off on your favorite porn site:

Some women choose to join the sex trade, but usually it’s because of sexual, physical or verbal abuse they suffered, being raped as a child, or somehow learning that sex made them valuable. Before I get a ton of arguments about my premise, I’m going to give you all on the other side the benefit of the doubt and pretend they all just love the life they lead.

All, that is, except for most of it. And by most of it I mean most of the porn you can see online: the “hot Russian babes” or the “sexy Asian cuties” who are mostly girls who have been forced, coerced or threatened – sometimes kidnapped – into becoming virtual sex slaves for the bastards who make a living off of them.

I want every man (or woman) who watches this stuff to think about the 12 year old girl in Bangkok who stayed in a hotel room for two weeks, working as a sex companion for the Australian businessman (Yes; I said 12). Or maybe think about the 16 year old Russian girl who thought she was getting a well-paying job in Europe, only to find herself doped, raped (repeatedly) and then forced to have sex with every man sent into her jail cell of a room (or for those movies so many people think are “harmless”.). Or perhaps you can get off on a dancing boy of Afghanistan (or bacha bazi, as they are known), whose family believes they have sent him to learn a wonderful trade . . . and instead the boy lives a life of dancing for (and being raped by) sick men who blame women for their inablilty to keep their hands off these helpless kids.

Really; how can we say porn is anything but fun?

So, why do you love porn? And will you love it now, when you think of those girls forced to perform in it?

That did nothing to burst my bubble. Women may prefer men to boys, but we guys ain’t that picky. If they got curves, we’ll turn our heads & drool, age be damned. They don’t even have to be of legal age, cuz it ain’t illegal if you’re only looking. The main reason for watching porn is we can rely on it to act out the fantasies in our heads, which usually involve baggage-free young nymphettes. Women are what we already have in real life, and real life is not always as sexy.

  2. This is such a huge topic a response box can’t do justice to it.

First off, humans have been drawing dirty pictures since they discovered cave walls. And as brain imaging and the ability to monitor chemical changes in the brain get more precise, it’s clear that men’s brains generally process ideas of sex differently than women do. And each individual brain processes sexual thoughts differently. Is a graphic magazine wrong but a bodice-ripping romance novel okay? In the former a man’s fantasy may not extend past orgasm, in the latter the woman’s fantasy includes a stable relationship and a happily-ever-after, each essentially following human mating strategies for each gender.

Much of how humans process sexual thoughts has to do with the whole “sending one’s genes on to the next generation” thing. Sexual desire in itself isn’t deviancy. It’s written into human beings’ genetic code. Regarding pornography specifically, it’s something that exploits human desires for profit, like watching murderous rage on “24” or revenge desires on “Law & Order”, or how food manufacturers are putting high-fructose corn syrup in food because humans like things that taste sweet. In all the examples, someone is making a buck because of the way your synapses snap.

It’s true that pornography has historically used young women who have been coerced, some in most extreme and disgusting ways, to perform for the camera for someone else’s profit. There have been laws in place for years against this, and stringent laws against the use of underage girls (and boys) in pornography. One can argue how well they are being enforced now, but enforcement is stronger now than thirty or forty years ago. But this opens all sorts of other legal problems. Is it okay for a 14 year-old to send her 15 year-old boyfriend a naked picture of herself, or should they both be branded as sex offenders for the rest of their lives for generating and possessing child pornography? If a mother takes a video of her naked toddler splashing in a wading pool, has she made pornography if some human mind out there is turned on by it? If photos are wrong, how about cartoons? Or pornographic stories?

Then there’s the whole question of whether porn makes men (and we’re talking about mostly men here) more likely to do something bad sexually (on a spectrum from rape, torture and murder to beating off instead of having sex with a partner), and the answer is “It depends”. Most men who watch pornography don’t reenact it in real life, like most people who watch violent movies don’t go out and commit violence after the final reel.

Then there’s the question about what kind of thought goes on in men’s minds. Male human desire tends to focus on women who are good candidates for child-bearing and so women in pornography are generally younger and more desirable. Is it wrong for men to have sexual desires about women who are too young for them? Is it okay for a man to fantasize about a forty year-old woman having sex but not a seventeen year-old? How about if he’s fantasizing that he’s 17? We are now not only rummaging through how brains work but also what constitutes a thought crime.

Bob Dylan once sang, “If my thought dreams could be seen/they’d probably put my head in a guillotine.” Most men have mentally undressed women, total strangers they see in public. They can’t help it. What to do? In the Western World you can’t cover women head to toe (and it doesn’t work anyway; men will still fantasize), and you can’t control how brains work. And guilt doesn’t generally work when the brain is excited. Regret comes afterward, whether in fantasy or real life. No matter how often we hear about slaughterhouses, when the steak is sizzling on the grill it’s hard for most people to walk away and wring their hands. Unless you’re a vegetarian.

I work in an adult video store on the weekends and sex is as old as time married couples, singles and many others come in and I pass no judement. Its not all perverted there are games clothing etc Why because some people need stimulation to acheive orgasm some couples married for 25 yrs like to kick up the excitement but it has some many other good points…If your someone comfortable with your sexuality..many women come in alone to get a vibrator..so whats the problem??? I cant acheive orgasm but i found the right toy at my part-time gig to help me out and im ok with it!
oh and I enjoy some porn every now and then and I AM MOST CERTAINLY A WOMAN ..Never made a video or took a pic in my life!!

  4. Lucille says:

I have to say I am AMAZED at the nonchalance and apparent condoning of young girls being beaten, coerced and threatened into performing in porn. Yes, it may be fun to watch, but how much fun do you think that 12 year old had?

  5. Ryan says:

It is not nonchalance to young girls being beaten- should we not wear clothing because in foreign countries kids are used as slave labor to manufacture them? no- we boycott or avoid the companies that exploit them- not the entire industry. these reactions are just bleeding heart reactionary conclusions.

  6. Mike Terzano says:

Agreed. Hear, hear! Porn is also a gateway to prostitution and vice-versa.

  7. I think you may be misreading the responses. I haven’t seen anyone here “condone” beating young women. And I’m not sure what 12 year-old you’re talking about. Pornographic actors aren’t 12 years old. By federal statute pornography manufacturers have to have on file records of actors’ ages precisely so that minors aren’t used. The FBI takes great interest in child pornography. If you come across any, phone your nearest federal building.

As for pornography generally, that’s part of human nature.

To Mike: Prostitution has been illegal most everywhere for thousands of years. And like I said earlier, people have been making pornographic art since they’ve been making art. Do you think that people are more moral after three thousand years of illegality? Making laws against human nature is a great way for filling up jails and making people miserable. Witness Saudi Arabia.

  8. Lucille says:

Because the web is global, you can find hundreds if not thousands of sites that are not based in this country and that boast young, pubescent or prepubescent girls. Look up sex tours while you’re at it, and you’ll find not only 12 year old prostitutes for sale but just about anything a perverted heart might desire in the form of underage “entertainment”. That 12 year old I mentioned in my posting happened to be in Thailand, but you’ll find them all over. And, yes, even in this country. Whether it’s the Russian mob or any other criminal enterprise, they know selling girls and young boys can mean big money – as long as people are willing to pay.

  9. Tony says:

Porn per se is a very broad topic. There are abherances (sp) and adverse situations that present. I have seen hundreds of so called Porn snippets/videos… yet I have never seen a seemingly underage girl in a porn video and i’m basically repulsed by the thought and it would not be a turn on, not in the least sense. HOWEVER, apparently there are men/women whom ARE turned on by youngsters as sex objects whether in thought, print, or video. The human mind is so extremely intricate that the slightest split-second vision or thought can be the impetus for immediate and extreme titillation or extreme depression. Witness two adults having sex and one partner says just the wrong thing; BAM, what was once hard is now soft!

In conclusion: Child Porn, Porn Slave Trade, Coersion, Abuse and Exploitation are different types of MO. I would hope that any of the porn that I’ve viewed and enjoyed involved no such input. From what I’ve heard the Porn Video trade, based mostly in California is very structured (well as structured as it can be anyway) and I rely on their rules and tenets and checkpoints to make sure that what i’m viewing isn’t abuse.

BTW: Car racing is a hobby driven by the love of cars and the need to make money, however some car racers die in racing accidents.

  10. Bob G says:

Porn is mostly bad because there is no love in these acts. Without love well you have nothing- that’s right NOTHING!!!!
