Beyond Babedom

We're (way) over 40. Deal with it.

Time is On My Side

Okay, here’s a touchy subject: weight and fitness. And a loaded question: how much time do you spend working out vs. the amount of time you spend on makeup/hair/facials/nails? And I’m NOT talking to you workout freaks – you simply set a bad example for the rest of us.

It seems we can always find time – must always find time – to blow dry/iron and color our hair, moisturize, apply makeup, get our nails done (or, if you’re like me, take the 10 minutes to apply new ones each week), but we just can’t find time to exercise. A man – who I won’t name here because he keeps telling me to leave him out of my blog – wondered this out loud, as he was bugging me about working out more (5 points if you’ve already guessed who it was).

It made me wonder why. For a minute. Because I knew immediately why. It’s not that we’re lazy – you think sitting in a chair while someone applies gels is easy? – it’s just that we canĀ  have some control overĀ  our hair, our face, our nails. And we can see the results. Fast. Except when it comes to face-tightening-wrinkle-removing creams – do any really work?

Applying makeup and the rest are also rituals that we began when we were 13 or 14. They come natural to us. Like men flipping TV stations. And making exercise a similar habit is an exhausting idea. Every day? And, when? Before I put my makeup on and do my hair? But what if I don’t have time to apply mascara? Awgh!

Yeah; I know. I either get in the habit or I may as well get into a habit ala Sister Teresa.

Or I could just get a smaller mirror.

When we decide to lose weight and get in shape, we realize that you have to do it in a gym atmosphere. Reason? Everyone else there is doing the same thing so it makes it easier. In order for it to really work, you have to become totally engrossed in it. You have to become self-absorbed, and problem is, people start to get bored of you “bragging” about it. You become self-centered and a little egotistical, but thats part and parcel of getting positive results. Friends start to avoid you because you can’t eat the good stuff they’re eating, instead you want celery and water. When you’re done, and your body looks great you want to show it off and people resent that as well. The only one it satisfies is YOU.

Have to do it first thing in the morning as soon as you get up and then go on with the rest of the day. Great because it also get you energized

The excerise I get now, is going up and down 21 steps one way at least 6 times a day and then since we now live in Gettysburg, Pa we find the time to walk the battlefields for at least 2 1/2 miles each day if weather permits. Get views and educational as well and getting fit at the same time. Eating plenty of salad greens and getting toned. I am getting my legs ready to start biking some of the walks we do. Bring on the warmer weather.
