Have you heard about the movement made up of guys who apparently can’t get a date and certainly can’t get a woman to sleep with them [I’m not using the term they use because I don’t want to become a target myself.]? Some call it “aggrieved entitlement.” They believe they are victims of a grand feminist conspiracy that isn’t just terribly unfair, but practically illegal. In our day, we had another name for them. Are you a Cougar?

Yow! Yippie! Hip Hip Hooray! I’m finally launching this blog. . . .it’s about time, right?
Well, let me get started on a subject that I’ve had on my mind: the term “cougar.”
Who came up with this unflattering description of a woman 
dating a younger man? I’d bet a million it wasn’t one of us. When I’ve suggested that this phrase is hostile toward women, I’m reminded by chuckling men (and women as well) that old men who date young women are called “leches” or “geezers” or “dirty old men” so . . . why am I complaining? (more…)

Don’t Rain on My Parade

We’ve probably all gone through life with people telling us what not to do: don’t cross in the middle of the block (Romper Room), don’t throw matches into the woods (Smokey the Bear), don’t drink and drive (your parents – hopefully). Much of this advice is good; some is not. My question is, when do you ignore advice, even if it comes from well-meaning people? And what happens when you do? (more…)
